Design Centre Stories

An Evergreen Scheme

Interior designer Emma Sims-Hilditch has reimagined an area of GP & J Baker’s showroom as a sumptuous and comfortable bedroom – the latest in a series of ‘curated spaces’ in which stellar names in decorating create roomsets to inspire.

Styled in the modern country-house look for which Sims Hilditch is best known, the scheme is anchored by a headboard and curtains in ‘Hydrangea Bird’ linen. This archive design was originally painted in 1917 by William Turner and has been recoloured in striking green and blue for the new Chifu collection.

Interviewed at London Design Week 2020, Emma Sims-Hilditch says she was immediately drawn to the fabric when visiting GP & J Baker’s design studio: “I felt instantly uplifted by it. That’s what’s I wanted our scheme to be about – optimism.”

The designer has also incorporated some smaller-scale prints to offset the exuberant ‘Hydrangea Bird’, including hand-block designs from the Coromandel collection. She also borrowed products from elsewhere at Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour, including ‘Hanford’ vase lamps in a deep blue glaze from Vaughan and a rug from Tim Page Carpets.
