Out of the Dark

Birds, beasts and botanicals pop out from their dark backgrounds in these three new wallcoverings. Their moody palette brings drama and glamour to an interiors scheme, creating a sense of fantasy that’s straight out of a fairytale. Arte has worked with Dutch design company Moooi to create a collection called Extinct Animals: each animal is featured in its own dedicated wallcovering, but there’s also one design, ‘Menagerie of Extinct Animals’ (pictured top) that brings all ten of them together, with dodos, bearded leopards and blushing sloths all inhabiting a single lush, leafy space. Christian Fischbacher has its own vision of a darkly beautiful paradise in ‘Kotori’ (pictured centre), a wallcovering that combines Asian and European influences, including kimono prints from Japan, and features exotic birds and oversized flowers that sing out against their dark blue background. In Cole & Son’s Botanical~Botanica~ collection, ‘Forest’ (pictured bottom) feels mysterious and otherwordly, its tree motifs in blue and greens looking almost neon-bright.
