Paradise on Earth
Bold blooms, shady trees, dappled light, and fanciful birds and beasts: bring a heady vision of an exotic garden inside with the latest launches.
Create an indoor oasis with Sanderson’s ‘Pamir Garden’ (above left) a design of tigers and antelopes frolicking amid stylised trees. Inspired by a document in Sanderson’s archive, the design has been repainted in a fresco style, with a crackle glaze effect added to create an artfully worn look. In Pierre Frey’s ‘Le Jardin du Palais’ (above right), a gentle tiger peers out of a lush setting, with foliage in electric blue and coral pink that sings against the deep, dark background.
Take to the wing with some unusual birdlife for wallcoverings. Nobilis’ ‘Josephine’ (above left) revisits a classic design of birds nestled in the shade of a bamboo and a fruiting tree; it’s printed on Japanese straw for subtle texture, and recoloured on some unusual grounds, from rust red to blush pink. Gastón y Daniela’s Japón collection (above right; available from Abbott & Boyd) includes ‘Garza Real’ featuring a strutting, plumed heron.
Be transported to the fragrant gardens and highly decorative Mudéjar architecture of southern Spain with Cole & Son’s Seville collection. Floral motifs such as jasmine, bougainvillea and orange trees feature alongside ‘Alcazar Gardens’ (above), an evocative reimagining of Seville’s splendid palace.
When it comes to furniture, peacock blues and primary colours introduce some of nature’s punchiest shades into interiors, from Oomph’s lacquered furniture (above left; available at Nina Campbell) to Julian Chichester’s vellum-fronted ‘Phoenix’ cabinet (above right).
