Design Centre Stories

Island Escape

While we are at home, a little design escapism is a welcome distraction, so it’s no wonder that lush vegetation continues to be a dominant theme for decorating. New to Colony, Casamance’s ‘Balata’ fabric is an evocative interpretation of Martinique’s Jardin de Balata, a tropical garden known for its palm trees and other exotic species. Other designers have also looked west for inspiration: Jean-Paul Gaultier’s latest collection for Lelièvre Paris includes ‘Grenada’, ‘Barbade’ and ‘Jamaïque’ – all pop-art-infused takes on paradise destinations – while Kravet’s Bermuda collection (available at GP & J Baker) features bright prints inspired by the island’s melting-pot colonial history and traditions.

Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour remains in support of all its showrooms, despite their closure during this time. Until restrictions are lifted, please contact each showroom directly for more information, or ask for help from the Design Centre’s Personal Shopping or Designer Sourcing Service.
