Waterproof, and Future-proof

Headed by architect David Rockwell and known for showstopping interiors for the hospitality industry, Rockwell Group’s five-star clients include Nobu, Ritz-Carton and Fairmont. Rockwell is a multi-disciplinary designer for whom collaboration is key, ever-curious to explore different avenues from theatre sets to furniture: Rockwell Group’s latest initiative is one of these offshoots, an outdoor furniture collection for Paola Lenti, available from Interdesign UK.

Tapping in to the firm’s deep knowledge of the hospitality industry, ‘Elba’ tackles a rising need for furniture to remain outside all year round – a trend that became evident in 2020 when outdoor drinking and dining became more necessary and more desirable.

Paola Lenti’s innovation in surface design is shown off here, with ‘Elba’ having the softer appearance of an upholstered piece even though it is completely durable and waterproof. It features a powder-coated stainless-steel frame with gently rounded slats covered in Diade, a waterproof plastic specially developed by Paola Lenti, embedded with woven fabric that gives it a textured appearance. ‘Elba’ is lightweight and stackable, and a complementary bar stool and lounge chair are also available.
