Gather Round
Interior designer Henry Prideaux is a serial collaborator with Jennifer Manners on bespoke rug designs for his residential projects – and now the pair have collaborated on a piece for the showroom’s permanent portfolio. ‘Rondel’ features distinctive three-dimensional convex shapes dotted around its perimeter, showing off the hand-knotting skills of the maker; a slim inner line adds an extra graphic touch, and the whole rug is finished with contrast edging. The rug is made from Jennifer Manners’ Re/purpose, a soft-feel luxury fibre made from recycled water bottles.
The rug’s style echoes art deco and Regency neoclassical architecture (Prideaux used architectural details from Sir John Soane’s Museum and Eltham Palace as reference points), and also resembles a classic framed convex mirror. “By virtue of its design origin, ‘Rondel’ is incredibly versatile, lending itself well to a distinctly classical scheme or something more modern,” says Prideaux. Although it’s been created in a round shape to mark the launch of the product, Jennifer Manners Design’s bespoke capabilities means that many other shapes and colours are possible, including more linear styles.
Look out, too, for Pioneer, a new collection in the showroom that had its starting point on a journey that Manners took across the American West: the wool and silk rugs were inspired by ancient rock formations, and the melting-pot of Hispanic, Native American and Anglo-American cultures.
