‘Forest bathing’ may be the latest wellness trend, but with these hexagonal ‘Woodland Glade’ tiles (pictured above) there’s no need to leave the bathroom to get a sense of nature’s ability to calm and heal. Available in six random patterns plus a white field tile, their gentle silhouette design was inspired by Winkworth Arboretum in Surrey, which belongs to the National Trust: the tiles are part of a wider collaboration between the conservation charity and Sarsen Stone, parent company of Design Centre showroom Artisans of Devizes.
Coast, countryside, gardens and historic houses all provided inspiration for the collection, from the blue and white Delft-tile-clad dairy at Gloucestershire’s Dyrham Park – one of the most distinctive rooms in the National Trust’s care – to the oak leaf carved on to one of the beams at Alfriston Clergy House in East Sussex (both of the resulting designs are pictured above left). Patterned examples are complemented by several plains, including ‘Lyme’ (above right, on lower wall), inspired by one of the bathrooms at Cheshire’s Lyme Park and ‘Shoreline’ whose palette of soft blues, greens and greys evokes the colours of the coastline. A limestone floor tile, ‘Lacock’ and a terracotta-look porcelain, ‘Brewhouse’, both evoke the rustic, beautifully patinated natural flooring to be found at many of the National Trust’s properties.
A minimum of £10,000 from sales of the collection will help the National Trust continue its work caring for special places.
