Riviera Revival
Monaco- and Paris-based studio Humbert & Poyet has created a collection of indoor-outdoor furniture, alongside a complementary line of performance fabrics, for Nobilis. Villa Riviera is a tribute to the golden age of the South of France in the early 20th century – and has been evocatively photographed at the Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul de Vence, the museum of modern art that embodies the creative spirit of the era.
Art deco-inspired scrolls and arcs dance across fabrics such as ‘Cap’ (above left) and ‘Corniche’, while ‘Beach Club’ is a smart stripe evoking the sunbeds, umbrellas and awnings of a chic seaside resort. The ‘Juan’ chair (above right) also has strong art deco leanings with its deep seat and arched back, while the ‘Californie’ sofa and chairs (pictured top) feature playful decorative detail, including carved rounded feet at the front, and an arched sides and back linked by antique brass clasps.
Emil Humbert and Christophe Poyet set up their design studio in 2007, which has become one of the most sought-after in Europe. It is known for glamorous interiors that take French classicism and give it an avant-garde Italian accent, with residential spaces complemented by hospitality projects such as the winery and hotel Ultimate Provence and Monaco restaurants Cozza and Beefbar.
