A Fresh Eye on Heritage

The Dome Cafe at London Design Week 2020 looked at heritage designs with a fresh eye, reinventing traditional chinoiserie for modern interiors. Commissioned specially for the show, curved walls featured ‘Magnolia’ wallpaper from GP & J Baker, a design first painted in 1913, in homage to antique painted wall panels from China; and  ‘Pivoine Silhouette‘, a custom wallcovering by Madeaux by Richard Smith, from Tissus d’Hélène, a design that takes a traditional chinoiserie pattern that removes the detail, leaving only a delicate silhouette upon a green ground. The paint used is ‘English Pear’ by Sanderson.
