The Playful Pendant

David Hunt Scallop Light above a dining table

David Hunt Lighting’s ‘Scallop’ pendant is a light for those who love to have fun with colour. The spun-metal shade (made in David Hunt Lighting’s Cotswolds workshop) features a hand-painted scallop edge, creating a two-tone effect, with the upper colour matched to the chain, ceiling cup and braided cable, and the lower colour continued on to the inside face.

David Hunt Lighting’s creative director Hollie Moreland devised a series of colour combinations (using paints from Little Greene) to demonstrate the light’s versatility. “I wanted to create a pendant that mixed traditional and modern elements – a piece that could work in a colourful contemporary space or an eclectic, layered chintzy interior. It has been a joy to create these colour pairings,” she says.

It is amazing how the light’s character changes according to its colour combinations: in ‘Woad’ and ‘Tusk’ (blue and off-white) it has a fresh beach-house vibe, while ‘Jewel Beetle’ and ‘Hellebore’ (green and pink) has a big-top feel that would be perfect for a children’s room. As well as being available in an in-house range of ten colours, the pendant can also be custom-coloured, using paint from any leading brand.
