Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour is the world’s premier destination for design and decoration and in May 2023, during London Craft Week, it will proudly be the home of Artefact, the contemporary craft fair for the modern collector.

Now in its third year, Artefact will bring the joy of the hand-crafted and highly collectible to an international audience of designers, architects, collectors and craft-curious enthusiasts. Celebrating and championing the highest levels of creativity, it will be an opportunity to meet leading gallerists from the vibrant craft arena and view outstanding work from established and emerging makers and artists.

THE PROGRAMME

CONVERSATIONS IN CRAFT

Broadening specialist knowledge, the Conversations in Craft talks programme curated by Material Matters host Grant Gibson will offer in depth interviews and panel discussions with star names from the worlds of craft and design. Guest speakers will include superyacht designer Andrew Winch and makers such as acclaimed ceramicist Alison Britton OBE, James Shaw, Gareth Neal and Frances Priest, to name but a few. Experts will include gallerist Juliana Cavaliero, colour consultant Justine Fox and Alun Graves, the V&A’s senior curator, ceramics and glass.

TOURS

Gallery tours aimed at professional audiences, collectors and all craft and design enthusiasts will give greater focus to what’s on show. Meet leading gallerists and discover the skills and materials behind the handcrafted and highly collectible objects at Artefact. Specialist sessions include the Collector’s Tour with champion of craft Corinne Julius and the Green Grads Tour with Barbara Chandler who founded and curated the not-for-profit platform. For many showrooms craftsmanship is at the heart of their business, join the Design Centre’s personal shopper to discover what the handmade brings to an interior scheme.

QEST

See work by six QEST scholars at Artefact. QEST (the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust) is the charity that supports the training and education of talented and aspiring craftspeople through scholarship and apprenticeship funding, sustaining vital skills in traditional and contemporary crafts and supporting Britain’s cultural heritage.

GREEN GRADS

Green Grads is a platform nurturing recent graduates of UK universities confronting the world’s most pressing eco-issues, such as sustainability, climate change, waste and pollution, new materials, biophilia, bio-diversity and much more. Ten Green Grad makers with sustainability at the heart of their practice will be exhibiting at Artefact.
