Slimline Design

Fine lines can be traced across autumn’s new launches, creating a look that manages to be both strong and visually light. In smart black and white, this rug (above) from the Tocca collection from Art Rugs Gallery has a dynamic design of offset diagonal stripes.

Formidable technical ability sits behind furniture such as Frag’s ‘Arita’ console (above left; available from Interdesign UK), which looks light as air but is actually made from steel with a top in either glass or lacquered veneer. The ‘Jet’ trolley by Porada (above right) is equally slimline, with shelving in either canaletta walnut, lacquered or with micro-striped inlays.

This ‘Upstream Sheer’ linen by Anna French for Thibault (above left; available from Jacaranda Carpets & Rugs) has vertical bands of delicate stripes, and an understated slubby texture. For walls, Arte’s ‘Sweep’ features a grid of lightly drawn pattern, as if a draughtsman had made his mark across a piece of paper.
