'Draycott' drawers, Rita Konig for Oficina Inglesa Furniture

Firm Favourites

Interior designer Rita Konig has launched some furniture in collaboration with Oficina Inglesa Furniture. Based on favourite pieces from her own collection – or ones that she has found hard to source for projects, filling a gap – they sum up Konig’s inimitable style.  “The rule of thumb for me was producing pieces I could use all the time,” she says.

The collection includes ‘Draycott’ (above left), a faux-bamboo chest of drawers in cherrywood, which can be painted any colour; ‘Bank’ (above centre), a pair of tables based on an original that Konig found in an antique shop, guessing it to be the work of legendary decorator John Fowler; and ‘Chelsea’ (above right), a round table that might work equally well as a dining table or centre table in a generously proportioned hallway (“I am currently working on a hall in my own home and am so looking forward to using this table. I envisage it being a place to have meetings, to play cards and plonk my handbag!”)

The designer visited the Oficina Inglesa Furniture showroom during Focus/23 to launch the collection, and it is clear that the brand’s impeccable craftsmanship is the thread that hold everything together. “The important thing for me with furniture is that it’s well made,” says Konig. “That’s why I like buying antiques; they’ve lasted, and their wear is part of their beauty. So to have a furniture line made with such beautiful craftsmanship that will do the same is very important.”
