Take to the Terrace

Samuel & Sons’ latest collection sees the trimmings experts team up with another US brand found at Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour, Perennials, to create a range of products suitable for indoors or out. Called Terrace, the collection took 18 months to develop and incorporates Perennials’ high-performance yarns, with an emphasis on chenilles and bouclés – soft, highly textured surfaces that are not normally associated with outdoor products.

“We knew we wanted to focus on an aesthetic and pattern that would accentuate the inherent beauty and dimensionality of the fibres themselves,” said Samuel & Sons’ executive design director Marisa Gutmacher, introducing the collection from New York as part of Focus/20’s online programme. Ombré borders and fringing create even more three-dimensional effects: Gutmacher says of the chainette fringe (below left), “what I love about it is, since we wove it in multiple layers of colour, it’s reversible, so you can shift the colour depending on which way you want to use it.”

A wooden trim made from hard-carved acacia beads (above right) complements the collection. All products are resistant to UV rays, mildew, mould and stains as well as being bleach-cleanable.
