Quilted and padded textiles don’t just offer an extra layer of comfort: their interesting texture draws the eye and delights the hand, delivering a sensual experience all round. Several brands are this year experimenting with this trend, and it’s surprising how different the effects can be depending on the material. Boussac’s ‘Coccon’ (available from Pierre Frey), with a pattern inspired by a faceted gemstone, is cool and contemporary in wool; Decobel’s ‘Castore’ (above, top; available from Jason D’Souza) and Kirkby Design’s ‘Cloud’ (above, centre; available from Romo) are made from sumptuous velvet, perfect for an opulent 1970s-inspired look; while designer Dominique Keiffer is channelling something much quieter with ‘Lin Bombé’ for Rubelli (above, bottom) – a soft washed linen that has an air of Japanese minimalism.
