Making Room Outdoors
Performance products are now more than just fabrics and furniture. Brands are expanding their repertoire to include a host of suitable for the outdoors, from rugs to curtain poles, allowing for the creation of true ‘outdoor rooms’ with a more decorative edge.
In the Mix is Perennials’ new collection of 100% solution-dyed acrylic fabrics and rugs, suitable for use indoors or out. Designed to complement one another, six fabric designs are all named on a musical theme, from the stepped pattern of ‘Do-re-mi’ to the fuzzy-outlined, batik-inspired ‘Good Vibrations’, and are accompanied by four new rugs. It’s available from Sutherland Perennials Studio.
Houlès’ Palma trimmings collection (above) can be used indoors or out, and includes a 4cm fringe, faux leather piping and colourful braid. Use them to trim curtains and combine with Houlès’ Costa collection of stainless steel poles, brackets, rings and finials, available in black or white.
With outdoor furniture now looking more and more like its indoor counterparts, Flexform has reimagined some of its most popular seating designs for the garden. It is introducing two new sofas to its outdoor collections, both created by giants of the Italian design scene: ‘Grandemare’ (above) from Antonio Citterio and ‘Alison’ from Carlo Colombo.
Performance fabrics continue to surprise with their combination of high design aspirations and incredible durability. C & C Milano is among the showrooms launching outdoor fabrics this spring; its Rua collection (above) includes vibrant stripes and weaves.
