Golden Age
Gallotti&Radice was founded in 1956 as a specialist in decorative glass, but it wasn’t until the early 1970s that it moved into furniture production. Thanks to its manufacturing know-how, those early glass pieces were full of technical difficulty, such as the ‘Tris’ coffee table, whose vertical and horizontal planes met at an elegant steel joint – and they are highly sought-after by collectors today.
Some of this furniture is still in production, such as the ‘President Junior’ desk, first released in 1971. The subtle criss-cross pattern on its surface is achieved by master craftsmen brushing the surface of the glass, and, fittingly for a golden anniversary, a special gold edition of the piece (pictured above left) has been released to mark the milestone.
