Design Centre Stories

Designer Loves: Juliette Byrne

As part of its First Look initiative, and as a preview to London Design Week 2021, the Design Centre asked top designers to choose their favourite products from this season’s new collections. Juliette Byrne selects her edit below, and also explains why green is her colour of the moment – both literally and in a symbolic, sustainable sense.

Is there a particular piece out of the products you’ve chosen that you can’t wait to put in a scheme? How do you envision using it?
We are currently working on a beautiful apartment in the South of France and I can definitely see some of these pieces working well with the schemes. Our client wants her home to feel light and airy so we are specifying delicate light fixtures, a bespoke ceiling sculpture, warm-toned neutral textures and brushed brass fittings on furniture.

Did you discover anything on the First Look colour wheel that surprised you?
Via Arkadia is a company that we had previously worked with but there is a myriad of tile suppliers nowadays so it’s great to be reminded of this wonderful Italian brand. Its SlabLab porcelain collection is gorgeous and we love to incorporate marble in our projects – real or faux!

What timeless colour should we all be embracing this year?
Green to suggest optimism and growth, and white to convey a sense of cleanliness and a fresh restart. Since the pandemic there has been an increased desire for sustainable or even regenerative design – how can we create sustainable and healthier spaces that respect the symbiotic relationship between humans and nature? We’ve seen numerous new product launches over the past year that aim to naturally purify air and remove toxins, use recycled materials and reduce carbon footprint, as well as a general trend of biophilia as a means to enhance mental wellbeing.
