11 Mar Walk This Way
Take a few steps over to Design Centre North to see The Rug Company’s new showroom. The 150 sqm space features three stacks of rugs to show its core collections, as well as a 150 sqm sample wall showcasing further colours, textures and patterns.
The Rug Company is revered for its collaborations with some of the creative industries’ leading lights, including Ken Fulk (with whom it will be collaborating on a WOW!house room later in the year), Kelly Wearstler and Martin Brudnizki. A new collection from British fashion’s national treasure, Paul Smith, is on display in the showroom, featuring his joyful rainbow colour palette and signature stripes reinvented, including ‘Spray Swirl’ and ‘Spectra’ (both pictured above).
Look out, too, for a great counterpoint to all that colour in the shape of the in-house designed Supertextures. As the name suggests, the new collection experiments with contrasting weaves and piles, often to dramatic effect – all made entirely in undyed New Zealand wool. ‘Fossil’ (pictured above) features disparate, fragmented shapes, its large-scale pattern created by the contrast between its flatweave base and thick raised-pile yarns; while ‘Wanderer’ features a flatweave border with a central field of wild uncombed wool.
