Angela Murray is an artist and curator who has always had strong links to the design industry; now, she’s cemented that relationship by basing her practice in Design Centre East. Her Quote & Curate space is not a showroom as such, but a multipurpose space that Murray will use as her painting studio as well as a gallery, for both her own and others’ work, and a base for her art consultancy.
“I’m already working on commissions for interior designers, so my thinking was, if I put my studio where they come to source anyway, they can come and look at pictures at the same time,” she says. “I wanted to open with my own work, but also some other really precious pieces,” she adds – Murray has put together a range of ceramics by Sonia Watson as well as prints by great names including Jim Dine and Norman Ackroyd. Look out, too for a beautifully pared-back desk and chair by Danish furniture brand Duus & Møller, which Murray is also representing.
Murray hopes that the space will evolve as her business does, adding furniture, lighting and whatever piques her interest and inspires her. The anchor will always be her own work though – and you may well catch her in the act of creation at her easel if you stop by.
