14 Mar The Art of Living Well
The work of one of the US’ most celebrated decorators, Bunny Williams, is available in Europe for the first time, thanks to a new partnership with Paolo Moschino Ltd. Her Bunny Williams Home collection will be available via the showroom – a line that was originally launched in 2008, but had not yet reached our shores.
Introducing Williams (alongside Paolo Moschino and Philip Vergeylen of Paolo Moschino Ltd) at a Conversations in Design talk at London Design Week 2024, House & Garden‘s Hatta Byng described her as “the master of living well.” Her style reflects an easy sophistication, a keen eye for comfort and a love of entertaining.
Key pieces include Williams’ signature cocktail tables (the reason the designer began her collection was because she couldn’t find any small side tables that she liked); rattan seating, where simple silhouettes are contrasted with lots of decorative detail in the weaving; and generously sized ceramic lamps with flamboyantly bold brushstrokes. Pictured top (left to right) are the ‘Keller’ bed with a ‘Chicken Feather’ lamp; a ‘Brush Stroke’ lamp; and a ‘Kinley’ armchair.
Many of Williams’ pieces are reproductions of antiques she has come across on her travels, while others come from the imagination of her in-house design studio. Hand-craftsmanship and unusual details abound: a pair of cast plaster wall-relief murals depicting stylised gardens, suitable for inside or out, were originally hand-carved in Indonesia, for example,.
“I’d known Paolo and Philip a long time and respected them, and loved their taste – I couldn’t have thought of anyone I would rather be with,” said Williams of the partnership at the Conversations in Design talk. For Moschino, the collection both fits beautifully with his own products, and adds something new: “There are some amazing things that we didn’t have.”
