Tropical View

A-list US designer Celerie Kemble first launched a collection in collaboration with Arteriors in 2018; now, she has built on that relationship with the release of further pieces that explore her playful yet polished style. The furniture, lighting and accessories all have a warmth to them – either through using natural materials, or having been inspired by nature – and they were particularly inspired by tropical travels (Kemble built her own beach club, along with her financier husband, in the Dominican Republic). Shell, coral and leaf motifs, and a muted palette of white and celadon, highlighted with brass, help to create a look that’s both laid-back and refined.

Pictured above (left to right) are the ‘Tendril’ accent table, with its clever lilypad-like top; the ‘Corset’ coffee table, which contrasts angular shapes and the hardness of glass and acrylic with its partially rattan-wrapped base; and the ‘Coral Twig’ chandelier, which has a delicate, ethereal silhouette just like the undersea reefs that inspired it.

“In most of my work, I’m trying to find ways to add levity and sweetness, and each piece I have designed is very functional, but adds a note of whimsy to your decor,” says Kemble. “I believe that it is in the quirks that things become distinctive – that interiors become animated by life and nourished by their inhabitants.”

Arteriors is well-known for its collaborations; outside designers love tapping in to its international manufacturing contacts for every kind of material and technique, and the brand benefits from the finger-on-the-pulse creativity of big industry names, which include Kemble as well as Beth Webb, Ray Booth and Workshop APD.
