Get to Know the House Guests

A record number of House Guests have taken up residence in the Design Avenue. In total, 26 brands have popped up for the duration of London Design Week 2022, covering everything from kitchens to bespoke furniture, and hardware to rugs, and adding another layer to the offering at the show.

Dedicated House Guest Tours are a new feature: get a personal introduction to six different House Guests during each session, and find out what makes each one unique. At Hyde House Interiors (above), founder Joanna Hauptman talked through some new furniture pieces and explained the ethos behind them: “There a movement towards colour and warmth….we’re looking for tactile pieces that stimulate us, with more detail.”

Moving on, Amy Kent was joined by Gabby Deeming (above left), former decoration editor of House & Garden and founder of Day Dress. The pair are launching a collection of rugs inspired by the fabrics used to make Day Dress’s clothing, which are hand-block-printed in Jaipur: as they pointed out, there is a natural affiliation with the new rugs since they are also made in northern India.

Steve Nyman of Hidden Gems Design (above right) offers distinctive furniture made from live-edge timber. “We work around the organic shape of the wood, and we enhance the textures, forms and colours to try and make magic from them,” he explained on the tour, adding that the pieces work especially work in modern, minimalist homes, their natural forms adding warmth and texture.

House Guests Tours continue on Thursday 17 and Friday 18 March at 12.30pm – with a different set of brands visited every day.
