Street Style

Named after a buzzing Brooklyn locale, Schumacher’s new Smith Street collection aims to capture the creative energy of arguably New York’s hippest borough, with loosely drawn motifs and modern geometrics. ‘Riley’ (above left) is a meandering pattern available as both a fabric and a wallcovering that has one foot in the traditional camp, echoing the classic ‘vermicelli’ motif, and one in the modern camp, taking inspiration from artist Keith Haring’s graphic street-art-inspired style.

Schumacher has multiple other collections launching for spring, all with their own mood. Schumacher Classics is a tempting delve into the archives (the brand has a rich pedigree, dating back to 1889), with colour-saturated chinoiserie such as ‘Ming Vase’ (above centre) and dainty florals such as ‘Vasily’; there’s also a new collaboration with London-based fashion designers Clements Ribeiro that includes the impactful ‘Fernarium’ (above right), and some bold and beautiful wall panels.

Head to the Schumacher showroom during London Design Week 2022 for a design workshop hosted by The List by House & Garden (Thursday 17 March, 4.30pm). Tim Gosling, founder of Gosling, and Benni Frowein, CEO Schumacher Europe & Middle East, will take a fascinating journey into the archives and uncover the joy that they can bring.
