Sow the Seeds of Better Sleep

Savoir Beds has built a name for itself as a luxury bed company that only uses the finest natural materials, including horsetail, sheepswool and cashmere. In a new development, however – just in time for Veganuary, when many people opt to experience a month-long taster of what it means to be vegan – it has launched an entirely plant-based bed.

Certified by The Vegan Society, ‘The Reformer’ blends the same traditional hand-making techniques – it takes over 40 hours to make a Savoir bed – with some modern ingredients. The bigger achievement is that there has been no falling back on materials that, although they may not be derived from animals, are more chemical-ridden and less breathable, such as latex and foam. Instead, there are natural and sustainable bamboo, flax, organic cotton and Tampico – the trade-name of a Mexican plant fibre derived from the agave lechugilla, which is layered between the pocket springs, creating the proper support for each mattress.

Savoir Beds drew on the organic textile expertise of fellow Design Centre showroom de Le Cuona to style the photography for ‘The Reformer’ (pictured) upholstering the headboard in one of its certified-organic linens, and will work with each bed customer to source other plant-based fabrics that suit their style.

‘The Reforner’ bed will be on display in the showroom in time for London Design Week 2022.
