Studio Hancock
Tom Hancock’s ‘Spun Vessels’ fuse design, craft and industrial manufacturing. They are crafted by turning a wooden former by hand, then collaborating with a specialist metal spinning firm to form aluminium into individual vessel components.
The process embeds the grain texture of the wood deep into the aluminium. The unique surface finish is achieved by following the principles of industrial auto body painting; applying multiple paint layers and polishing them back reveals the texture of the wood grain and the unique maker’s marks.
Studio Hancock is exhibiting as part of Future Heritage.
