SHY Design Studio
SHY Design Studio’s 8 collection is handmade in scagliola, traditionally used as a surface decoration, particularly in architecture. SHY nods to the material’s origins, first building the pieces into strong simple architectural forms, before unexpectedly carving into and destructing the surfaces to create new forms and reveal patterns hidden below.
SHY’s high-risk techniques celebrate the sacrificial element inherent to many crafts, using the material in an original way while reflecting scagliola’s history, to create sculptural furniture and vases.
