Anna Ray

Anna Ray explores the visual and emotive potential of materials through making by hand, and her work often blurs the boundaries between two and three-dimensional art. She works predominantly with fibre-based materials such as silk, cotton, velvet, wool and paper, each having the potential to be transformed using domestic tools – a sewing machine, scissors, pliers, a needle.
At Formed with Future Heritage, she will show ‘Loop’, which is constructed from machine- and hand-stitched, padded cloth forms in deep turquoise, blue and purple colours that gently transition as white loops break up the surface; and ‘Lace’, which features hand-block-printed cloth that has been stitched and stuffed to create units that can be tied together in any combination or form.

Anna Ray is a 2021 Future Heritage alumnus.
