Design Centre Stories

Viva Vibrancy

Eye-catching colour and pattern lit up the showrooms at London Design Week 2018 as part of ‘Legends’, an initiative to transform display windows with creative flair, symbolising the rise of individuality and creative expression in interiors. Capturing the spirit of designer Gesa Hanson, a playful, rainbow-hued window with a paint-splashed background was devised for Villeroy & Boch’s Design Centre East to complement its coloured basins, while Czech lighting brand Bomma lit up the Poliform showroom with its glass pastel-hued pendants. Vaughan paid homage to legendary designer Diana Vreeland – and her singular love of the colour red – with walls, curtains, lighting and Moroccan tables, all in the same shade. Samuel & Sons harnessed the talents of its art director Milton de Paul to create a series of towering tiered ‘cakes’ adorned with trimmings and braid to celebrate five years at Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour.

Interior designer Gavin Houghton took over a showcase in the North Dome to create a vivid vignette using new fabrics and papers from Tissus d’Hélène to highlight a shared colourful, individual and eclectic style. Nina Campbell welcomed Oomph in to its showroom, a brand well-known for its bright and beautiful lacquered furniture, and she also created a colourful display of her new performance fabrics over at Summit Furniture. Italian fabric and fashion company Livio de Simone’s window at Miles x Bookshop with its signature bold prints evoked an era when the Amalfi coast, frequented by the international jet set, was the last word in glamour, and Neisha Crosland suspended vibrant shapes from her ‘Jigsaw’ cement tiles in Artisans of Devizes’ window.
