Find the Right Rug

“I do things differently, and I like to change as well. That’s been my motto so far.” So says Esti Barnes of Topfloor by Esti, talking to Design Centre Chelsea Harbour’s personal shopper Gabrielle Grubanovich for a special ‘Getting to Know Rugs and Carpets’ session as part of Focus/20’s virtual programme. “We are a 100% bespoke company, so we are not bound or restricted by anything,” she continued, before talking through some of the most common issues with rugs – from sustainable options such as wool and jute to the best type of pile if you have a cat that likes to scratch.

Two recently launched rugs, pictured above, demonstrate Barnes’ fertile imagination when it comes to design. ‘Labrador’ (left) was inspired by the semi-precious stone labradorite – said to have healing properties and therefore considered a fitting subject for 2020 – while ‘Natura’ (right) evokes a sunset over the Mediterranean, whisking us to warmer climes and the promise of better things.
