Mellow Mood

The rich, warm palette of materials used in this apartment at Sugar Quay – a new development in the shadow of the Tower of London – give away the South American roots of its owner.  The project is the work of Casa Alta Design, which worked with Tollgard as the main supplier of the furniture and accessories for the scheme.

Erika De Carvalho, Casa Alta Design’s founder and creative director, specified pieces from across Tollgard’s broad selection of brands, all of them united by their contemporary aesthetic and commitment to craftsmanship. Walnut detailing, natural marble and lush greenery combine to give a flavour of Brazilian modernism, without forgetting the distinctiveness of the prime Thames-side setting.

The brands featured include Giorgetti, Reflex Angelo, Fendi Casa, Bontempi and Moooi. Czech glass lighting brand Bomma’s ‘soap’ pendants hang either side of one of the beds (above): inspired by the iridescence of soap bubbles, each has a unique amorphous shape. In the hallway, a ‘Westin’ console table by Cattelan Italia showcases the combination of strong shapes and handsome materials that make this project so compelling, topped by a wild cat sculpture that’s an artistic homage to the owner’s origins.
