Rules for Breaking

Known for its exuberant approach to print and pattern, Scottish brand Timorous Beasties was ahead of the maximalism curve when it was founded in 1990 – and having had a cult following ever since, it has now taken up residency for a pop-up on the Third Floor of the Centre Dome. Its giant digital prints and subversive takes on classic genres such as toiles and damasks fill the white space, with bolts of fabric dropping down from the high ceilings. On show for the first time is the newly launched ‘Totem Damask’ wallpaper: typical for Timorous Beasties’ rule-breaking approach, the design doesn’t adopt a formal repeat pattern, so it can be used in a freeform way to create an idiosyncratic look.
