Blur the Boundaries

Romo Black Kansai

Romo’s Black Edition brand is known for its rich contemporary look, and its new collection – its first for 18 months – has a striking trend-led aesthetic. Florals in abstract watercolours or ikat-inspired patterns have a soft, diffused look that gives plenty of movement, contrasted with antique crackled effects in striking black and white (pictured is a sofa covered in ‘Kansai Velvet’, with cushions in ‘Antica’ and ‘Niumi’, and wallpaper in ‘Antica’). “It’s a strong look but the different scales draw the eye differently, and it’s nice to be able to mix up textures of velvet, linen and silk linen,” says design director Emily Mould. She is pictured below with their first vinyl wallcovering collection, which includes patterns and textural effects that create distorted, blurred outlines, generating the same sort of subtle designs seen in the fabrics.
