A Shower of Flowers
Renowned florist Philippa Craddock created the Centre Dome’s highly inventive floral display. Entitled The Line of Beauty, the aerial installation taps in to the show’s geometric design theme with a shower of suspended tubes in shades of blue, each with a cluster of delicately balanced hydrangeas at one end. “Normally I work with gentle shapes and designs, so the brief for something geometric was new to me,” says Philippa. “The result looks effortless, but it was a big challenge.” The straight lines of the main installation make a contrast with ethereal clouds of gypsophila in blue vessels, dotted around the space. Philippa returned to the Design Centre to give an demonstration on how to create hand-tied bunches, to a wrapt audience – confiding at one point in her one-woman mission to bring the maligned carnation back into fashion.
