Design Centre Stories

A Family Affair

Christian Lee has been in the textile business for decades, and so has his family: he’s the great-grandson of the founder of Arthur H Lee & Sons, which was founded in the early 20th century, and was known for its hand-embroidery. The firm closed its doors in 1970 – but Christian Lee has now given his name to a new showroom in Design Centre East that means the legacy lives on.

The company is the sole distributor of Fabricut USA, one of the largest fabric suppliers in the world, but until now not directly available in the UK. Fabricut’s portfolio is vast, and the showroom has just launched Collective Threads, an eclectic collection that touches on both traditional design and a more bohemian aesthetic. Highlights include ‘Molina Hexagon’ (central cushions, above left), a vibrant embroidery with a three-dimensional effect; and coordinating trimmings such as ‘Lintong’, a beaded tassel and the embroidered border ‘Azizi’ (both pictured above centre). Fabricut’s wallcoverings are also available via the showroom.

In a nod to Arthur H Lee & Sons’ original philanthropic philosophy, every metre of fabric sold will see a £1 donation to charity.
