Rubelli on the Runway

During Focus/21, see three fabulous gowns designed by Alberta Ferretti in the Rubelli showroom, all of which use iconic fabrics from Rubelli’s collections.

Venice has grown into a major hub of contemporary art and culture over the past two decades, with some of the city’s most wonderful buildings revived and turned into gallery spaces. Its unmatched heritage is also starting to lure fashion designers away from the traditional fashion capital, Milan, to show their latest creations.

Ferretti staged a special catwalk show in early September at the prestigious CĂ  Rezzonico to celebrate Venice’s 1,600th birthday – and felt that she had to incorporate textiles that were synonymous with the city (Rubelli has been based there since the second half on the 19th century). ‘San Marco’ silk damask and ‘Barbarigo’ brocade have been used to stunning effect, spotlighting Italian craftsmanship and creativity.

The crossover between fashion and interiors may not be a new one – but rarely have the two been so closely connected as with these sumptuous creations, which are so much better appreciated in real life.
