Happy Birthday Schumacher

Renowned US brand Schumacher turns 130 years old. Founded in Manhattan in 1889, the history of the family firm is a touchstone of American cultural zeitgeist.

It supplied wallpapers for Gone with the Wind and Jackie Kennedy used a lampas weave on the White House’s Blue Room walls. The Metropolitan Opera debuted in 1966 with a dazzling Schumacher designed gold and bronze stage curtain inspired by Matisse’s paper cut-outs, and wallpapers and fabrics were used on the sets of House of Cards and The Age of Innocence.

Over the years, it has teamed up with the brightest design talents such as Elsa Schiaparelli, and more recently Kelly Wearstler and Mary McDonald. As fresh and relevant as ever, its collections can be seen at Turnell & Gigon, Ground Floor, South Dome.
