Tailoring with a Twist

Savior Beds’ latest design collaboration is with Dashing Tweeds, designers of “modern urban tweeds”, whose fabrics are now available to upholster its beds.

This is no ordinary fabric, however. “The original idea behind Dashing Tweeds is that tweed is the original sportswear for gentlemen – I loved cycling around London in an old tweed jacket,” says company founder Guy Hills, who visited Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour to talk about the bed as part of Focus/20’s online programme. The twist is that, as well as coming in a modern colour palette, the wool is woven with reflective yarn: “it gives the fabric a whole extra life – it kind of winks at you and moves with the light,” says Hills.

This is the first time that Dashing Tweeds has collaborated on a furniture project, and Savoir Beds’ upholstery skills are a match for any Savile Row tailor: “the quality is absolutely immaculate” said Hills.
