Confident Outlook

Studio Winch has created a curated space within the GP & J Baker showroom, designed as a sophisticated space that fuses a town and country aesthetic, and epitomising Focus/21’s theme of ‘creative confidence’.

Selina McCabe, partner at Studio Winch, says that she had an imaginary client in mind for the sitting room and home office, “somebody who wanted a rural property crossed with a London townhouse, finding a comfortable place between the two.” She also imagined this person to be a well-travelled collector of all kinds of objects, happy to mix high and low in the name of an imaginative, unique design scheme.

Burnt orange, deep forest green and charcoal textiles combine with unique antique pieces to create a playful yet sophisticated scheme with character and depth. Emerald-green curtains in Baker Lifestyle’s ‘Pavilion’ fabric set the scene, lined with Threads’ ‘Vista’ fabric and trimmed with Donghia’s ‘Covet’ fabric in a contrasting tangerine.

A working area sits to one side of the room, with a chair upholstered in GP & J Baker’s ‘California Velvet’, while the upholstered ottoman is in Lee Jofa’s ‘Taplow Print’ fabric.

Pieces from other Design Centre showrooms have been brought in to complete the scheme, including a ‘Crawford’ chandelier from Porta Romana and ‘Helmsley’ table and ‘Bexley’ mirrors from Vaughan. The set of nine artworks on the wall are digitally embroidered pieces by RCA graduate Amelia Ayerst.
