Unusual techniques and combinations of materials are one of Gallotti&Radice’s strengths, and the new collections show a typically forward-thinking approach. Two additions to the Prism collection, designed by Lebanese design studio David/Nicolas, stand out: a pair of monolithic side tables made from travertine, and a walnut intarsia coffee table.
Intarsia is an ancient technique, where sections of timber are inlaid with contrasting materials such as bone or mother-of pearl, but Gallotti&Radice’s design has a more contemporary interpretation, with a smart pinstripe-like design that follows and emphasises the shape of the triangular table. “It was [traditionally] used to achieve contrasting chromatic effect or a particular texture, but here we have a very modern material – aluminium – which creates a very beautiful, dynamic geometry,” said showroom manager Maria Teresa Barletta, introducing the collection as part of Focus/20 (above).
Other new products include ‘Audrey Motion’, a curving sofa that is modular and can therefore be extended to create dramatic islands of seating in large commercial or hospitality spaces; ‘Livre’, a lounge chair with Japanese influences created by young designer Federica Biasi; and the pebble-shaped ‘Ruggy’ the brand’s first deep-pile rug.
