From Earth to Sky

Head to the Centre Dome at Focus/21 to see a mesmerising aerial artwork, specially conceived for the show by Arabella McNie. Bringing together contrasting natural elements, From Earth to Sky features colourful foliage swirling into the domes among suspended slices of agate, bringing the beauty of nature into an urban environment. The installation acknowledges turquoise’s symbolism as a sign of wisdom, protection, good fortune and hope, and carries forward the togetherness, positivity and connection that puts the Design Centre firmly at the heart of the design community.

The wallcoverings used to make the individual leaves for From Earth to Sky use some of the show’s signature colours, including turquoise, teal, rust and dusky pink. They include (from left to right, above):  ‘Forbidden Fruit’, Sanderson; ‘Melora’, Harlequin; ‘Dahlia’, Casamance at Colony; and ‘Cornwall’, Anna French by Thibaut at Jacaranda Carpets & Rugs. The installation also fetaures ‘Mildmay’, Sanderson; ‘Ode’, Omexco at Lelièvre Paris; ‘Platinum’, Arte; ‘Gabarit’, Arte; ‘Charleston Paisley’, George Spencer Designs; and ‘Nids – Jolis’, Pierre Frey.
