Stylish Every Day

The perfect kitchen is where function, aesthetics and technology combine to make day-to-day life stylish, and this recent project in Notting Hill by Espresso Design seamlessly creates that balance. An unusual earthy terracotta shade brings a sense of warmth to the space – appropriate given how the kitchen’s status has been raised to make it the welcoming hub of family life. The island and other cabinetry is from the ‘Unit’ collection by Italian kitchen brand Cesar, finished in high-tech Fenix laminate in a shade called Rosso Jaipur.

The island encompasses key design directions for kitchens, and not just because of its expressive use of colour: raised up on slim legs,  it looks more like an elegant piece of furniture than a monolithic block, a better fit for a multifunctional room that is open-plan to the adjacent dining area, while the wafer-thin stainless steel countertop lends a dash of contemporary minimalism.

While the white ash breakfast bar at the end of island appears to cantilever, look closer to see its near-invisible glass support. Running along the wall are units in metallic affect lacquered doors (also part of Cesar’s ‘Unit’ collection), with a soapstone worktop and Gaggenau appliances, with the adjacent wall clad in smoky antique mirror. In the dining area, a ‘Plinto’ table in Calacatta Oro marble and ‘Kerr Tre’ dining chairs by Meridiani further enhance the sophisticated play of luxury materials and speak of the enduring craftsmanship and sophistication of Italian design.
