Design Centre Stories

Designer Loves: Alidad

As part of its First Look initiative, and as a preview to London Design Week 2021, the Design Centre asked top designers to choose their favourite products from this season’s new collections. Here, Alidad makes his curated edit, and talks about the colours he is drawn to right now.

Is there a particular piece out of the products you’ve chosen that you can’t wait to put in a scheme? How do you envision using it?
Vaughan’s ‘Broughton’ bobbin chair. It’s my kind of furniture – comfortable and masculine. I would love to use it in a library.

Did you discover anything on the First Look colour wheel that surprised you?
The variety between traditional and modern worked really well. It makes you notice products that you wouldn’t necessarily have looked at before; there’s a really big range to choose from.

Is there a colour you are consistently drawn to in your work?
I am usually drawn to warmer colours such as yellows and reds, but lately, and on the First Look colour wheel, it was more about the cooler colours such as pale blues and greens. Such an interesting contrast.

What timeless colour should we all be embracing this year?
I love all colours – it is all dependent on the job and client.
