Bed-maker Vispring is a passionate advocate of using natural materials, from organic cotton to bamboo and cashmere. It is perhaps best known as a champion of wool, however, using around 400 tonnes of it each year to create its beds and mattresses (including wool from the Exmoor Horn sheep that roam the fields near its Plymouth factory).
Sleep experts recommend natural materials for beds and bedding for their breathability and hypoallergenic properties, and at Vispring that recommendation extends to the fabrics used for its headboards and divans, too. A new collection of wool fabrics celebrates this most versatile of textiles, from silky wool satin to subtly patterned tweeds and smart herringbone. See two of them – ‘Tweed’ in blush and ‘Bouclé’ in ivory – upholstering beds in Vispring’s recently refreshed Design Centre showroom.

As a renewable resource, wool has a persuasive sustainability story too, and in 2025, the brand’s ‘Diamond Majesty’ mattress topper was recognised in the Homes & Gardens Awards for Best Sustainable Design. The Rolls-Royce of mattress toppers, it features eight layers including cotton, Shetland wood and cashmere for the ultimate in comfort.
Now that it has floated into 2026 on cloud nine, Vispring has even more to celebrate, when it will mark its 125th anniversary with a series of special initiatives throughout the year. Keep an eye out for the celebrations.
