A deep-pile rug can feel like heaven underfoot, and The Rug Company’s new Alpine collection is designed to sink your toes into. Inspired by wintry landscapes, these six rugs were designed by The Rug Company’s in-house designers, with a focus on sculptural carved piles and natural tones and textures.
There are chunky boulder-like shapes (‘Crackle, pictured above); flowing lines inspired by a skier’s meandering trails (‘Glade’, below right); triangular geometrics that take their cues from the rugged architecture of a log cabin (‘Aerial’, below centre).

While some rugs are made solely from richly textured merino wool, others combine high-pile wool and flatwoven jute or nettle, such as ‘Summit’, above left. “While these fibres have long held a place in rug making traditions, pairing them with deep pile merino felt refreshing,” says Ying Ying Birabi, The Rug Company’s head of product design and collaborations.. “Jute’s appeal lay in its sandy hues and uniform, flat yarn, which allowed us to create clean, defined lines. Nettle, on the other hand, brought cooler undertones, with its natural variations on yarn width and colour lending as added layer of texture.”
The collection was shot not in an Alpine ski chalet but somewhere just as beguiling, a Cotswolds former granary recently given a distinctly mid-century makeover by Maddux Creative, full of neutral texture that perfectly complements the rugs.
