The labyrinth-like design of The Rug Company’s ‘Folklore’ rug was inspired by folklore carvings. It has a thick cut pile sitting on top of a flatweave base, and is pictured in natural New Zealand wool, with a slate grey option also available.

Topfloor by Esti’s founder Esti Barnes was a pioneer in using angular hand-carving to shape sculptural designs. Her latest collection includes this ‘Moonwalk’ rug in off-white – delivering visual associations with an astronaut’s powdery footprints.

Jacaranda Carpets & Rugs’ ‘Yakisugi’ rug was inspired by the Japanese technique of charring wood to preserve it. Instead of a scorched surface, the rug features irregular blocks of colour that also play with different textures, framed by black outlines in a slightly lower pile for even more tactility.

Designer Henry Prideaux designed the ‘Rondel’ rug for Jennifer Manners. It features hand-finished raised roundels and a contrasting border – with a runner complementing this distinctive circular design.

‘Jaylah’s uneven blocks call to mind a tightly packed village seen from above, or some ancient stonework walls. Pictured in a sand colour, it is hand-woven in India from premium wool. Find it at Stark Carpet.

Architect Kengo Kuma designed this ‘Chirashi’ rug for Jaipur Rugs as part of a wider collection inspired by the intricate facades of his buildings. Its scattered design came from the dynamic stone patterns of the Kanayama Community Centre in Gunma, Japan.
