The Joy of Pattern

Osborne & Little celebrates the decorative arts – and the sheer joy of pattern – in its latest Byzance collection. Hop from India to Central Asia as you explore fabrics, wallcoverings and trimmings that demonstrate decorating at its most exuberant and exotic.

‘Taniska’ (above left) is a tree of life design (available as both a wallcovering and a printed linen), broken up by a lattice border stripe: its name comes from the Hindu for “Goddess of Gold”. The sumptuous ‘Lohdi Velvet’ (above centre) explores Indian miniature paintings as an inspiration with its fantastical scene of an orangery and meandering river, punctuated by trees. ‘Samrina’ wallcovering and fabric (above right) is a suzani-inspired wide stripe, available in the classic indigo and white pictured here as well as a more riotous coral and teal; the textile version is beautifully embroidered, “reminiscent of an heirloom wall hanging,” says Osborne & Little.

Adding additional layers of opulence, there is also a foil wallcovering with a subtle crosshatch design, available in metallic shades including gold and copper. A complementary trimmings collection (pictured above) picks up on some of the motifs found in the fabrics and wallcoverings: the ombré lattice of ‘Taniska Braid’, for example, is a version of the border stripes on ‘Taniska’.
