Evitavonni states that its aim is to “create interiors that offer absolute tranquillity”. Founded by Kate and Michel Erwich, the British fabric brand has a reputation for fabrics that tend to whisper, rather than shout, with a soft signature palette and a focus on quality and tactility. Kate Erwich explains more here about the decision to return to the Design Centre with a showroom after a few years’ hiatus, as well as what it takes to make “couture level” fabrics that must be experienced in person to be truly appreciated.
The Design Centre is the heart of London’s design community, and we are delighted to have returned, having previously had a showroom here for many years. It felt like the only place to be: a considered decision to return to an environment that celebrates design excellence, creativity and the best in interior design. It is a space where our textiles can be experienced first-hand and appreciated for their refinement, elegance and the level of detail that defines our collection.
Having moved in at the beginning of September 2025 (to open in time for Focus/25 on Design), we have created a small ‘pop-up’ within our permanent space, with a refurbishment and full reopening planned in time for London Design Week in March 2026. Our full range of textiles and a selection of our accessories are currently on display, and the redesigned space will capture our aesthetic of understated elegance, where clients can discover our complete fabric and accessory collections, alongside the forthcoming launch of our new furniture range.
Our fabrics are not only defined by their design but also by touch. The hand, weight and weave of each fabric is so important and can only be truly appreciated in person.
I work with artisanal interior and fashion mills that specialise in couture-level production, creating fabrics with exceptional texture and depth. Experiencing the fabrics in natural light, feeling their weight and movement, and seeing how they layer together are all essential to appreciating their refinement and individuality. Visiting the showroom also allows clients to collaborate directly with our team, developing schemes and bespoke ideas that go beyond what can be conveyed online.
Evitavonni’s design philosophy is to create timeless, classic fabrics designed to endure. We prefer not to follow trends; instead, we focus on a modern classic style, where quality, longevity and considered design take precedence over fashion.
We do have ‘hero’ fabrics, but it’s difficult to choose just one. Both ‘Cascade’ [below] and ‘Greta’ have become our signature designs with both fabrics instantly recognisable as Evitavonni: ‘Cascade’ is a silk and linen jacquard inspired by stylised wood-block prints of waterfalls; while ‘Greta’ was inspired by the film Mata Hari, starring Greta Garbo – it captures the timeless glamour and quiet sophistication of classic Hollywood, interpreted for contemporary interiors.
We’re seeing a real shift towards fabrics with more character and depth that offer texture and a more natural aesthetic, which aligns closely with our own design philosophy. We’ve always believed in thoughtful design rather than following trends, and it’s encouraging to see this renewed appreciation for layered, warmer, rich colour palettes that echo our own aesthetic.
There’s a move away from minimalism towards a sense of relaxed sophistication and understated luxury. Sustainability continues to underpin much of our thinking, not only through recycled or traceable materials but through the idea of lasting design, with pieces – whether fabrics, furniture or lighting – created to remain relevant for years to come.
Threadwake: A Tapestry Collection of Quiet Revival [pictured top right] brings together velvets, linens and embroideries inspired by the faded beauty of old English interiors. I was particularly drawn to the artistry of traditional tapestries, where colour and texture weave together to tell their own stories.
The fabrics capture that sense of history; stately manors, timeworn rooms and walls that carry a feeling of age and atmosphere. There is also a Brontëan influence running through it, romantic, windswept and gently dramatic, yet the palette and design feel fresh and contemporary. For me, it is very much a dialogue between past and present, between heritage and modern restraint.
All our fabrics are produced by specialist mills across the UK and Europe, where traditional techniques and artisanal expertise meet modern innovation. Our designs are developed in close collaboration with these mills, from the initial concept through to the finishing, to ensure each textile carries our signature quality and refinement. Every collection begins with a concept, a feeling, or a story, and over many months of sampling, testing, and colour work, that idea takes form. The result is a fabric with a luxurious hand, beautiful texture and a timeless sense of elegance.
We’re entering an incredibly exciting period at Evitavonni. Alongside our textile collections, we’re developing a new furniture range that reflects the same ethos that defines our fabrics; timeless, textural, and considered. Each piece is designed and crafted in-house to ensure the highest level of detail and integrity. The style is classic yet modern, created to sit seamlessly alongside our textiles and express the same sense of enduring elegance. We’re looking forward to sharing more.
