Sleeping with Nature

Discover an all-natural bed brand at Rested, where timeless making skills and traditional materials meet technical innovation

A recent addition to bed specialist Rested’s showroom, the Founders collection by J Rosenberg is for people who like to know that they are sleeping on entirely natural materials. From traditional horsehair to temperature-regulating linen and wool, sound-absorbing coconut husk, and grand continental box springs encased in calico, its components come together to create some of the most luxurious beds in the world – and with it, surely the best night’s sleep.

If you haven’t heard the name yet, that’s because Rested is the only distributor of J Rosenberg’s products outside Latin America. In its native Chile, its Rosen brand is a huge household name when it comes to beds, but the Founders collection represents the pinnacle of its hand-making skills.

The company’s commercial scale in Latin America also means that it can invest in research and development. Its latest innovation is Spora, a leather-like material made from mycelium. Spora’s scientific team uses DNA sequencing to identify the most promising species of fungi to be turned into this new material, which has a significantly lower environmental impact compared with leather.

Six mycelium fabrics have been developed that can be used to upholster beds and headboards, with every fabric having its own unique patina, from the warm, rust tones of ‘Wild Embers’ (pictured) to the paler ‘Wild Alabaster’ which recalls the washed-out tones of bleached shell or stone.

The proof of any bed is, of course, how comfortable it is, so head to the showroom to try out one of the Founders beds for yourself.
