Three Cosy Bars Featuring Products from the Showrooms

Looking for a sophisticated spot for date night? The interior designers behind these three recently opened London bars all looked to the Design Centre’s showrooms for their sourcing – and devised schemes that are stylish, atmospheric and made for a late night out…

Cicchetti Piccadilly

Design studio Fettle had already shaped the look for several restaurants in the San Carlo Group – each one an exuberant feast for the senses that reflects the robust Italian menu – before it created Cicchetti Piccadilly.

With its glossy sunshine-yellow walls and mirror-lined arches, the sumptuous bar is the perfect place to see and be seen with a date, before heading into the adjacent restaurant: Fettle incorporated Lee Jofa’s ‘Lawrence’ fabric on the statement backs of the bar stools, with lampshades in a Gastón y Daniela ikat, trimmed with pop-poms from Samuel & Sons. ‘Dean’ picture lights from Visual Comfort & Co. illuminate the vibrant artwork.

Anise

This 60-seat cocktail bar and lounge is the work of award-winning interior architecture studio A-nrd. Located in a former warehouse in the City of London, it is anchored by a large monolithic bar topped by a softly folding green velvet curtain (pictured top of page).

Casamance’s ‘Heritage’ cut velvet in a vibrant mustard yellow has been used for the banquette seating and bolster cushions, with the upholstery slotting neatly into dark oak joinery. Snuggle into the cosy window seats (which incorporate the same Casamance fabric), which feature a shared table for holding hands underneath…

Kamara

Part of the growing Brother Marcus stable of restaurants, Kamara is the tucked-away first-floor bar above the Poland Street branch. And while it’s all very Soho with its cosy banquettes and low-level lighting, designer Sophie Finch of Finch Interiors (who also designed the airy restaurant) has also responded to a brief to incorporate something of the Greek heritage of co-founder Tasos Gaitanos.

Rough textured clay lines the walls, ceiling and bar-front for an almost cave-like atmosphere, with terracotta pots and planters dressing the space. Finch specified Kirkby Design’s ‘Crush’, a contemporary crushed velvet (available from Romo) in three colours – paprika, rust and ochre – to tonally match the earthy shades on the walls.
